Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse Goes Fishing

New WCF 2000 Schedule To Make an Even Bigger Splash

MONTGOMERY, AL, June 1, 2000-- WCF, the new innovative series of tournament
events which features the world's top anglers, announced today that Lowe's
Home Improvement Warehouse will be the series title sponsor. World
Championship Fishing tests both angling and power boating skills in a
five-event circuit.

"Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse brings a wealth of marketing resources
to WCF, which will have a positive impact on the entire fishing industry,"
said Don Corkran, Director of WCF. "We are pleased to reschedule the first
two events to allow time to develop and activate a comprehensive
promotional campaign including in-store, media and consumer promotions."

"Lowe's customers strongly identify with fishing and motorsports. WCF
captures both of these elements in a unique cutting edge format that we are
excited to sponsor," said Dean Kessel, Lowe's Manager of Sports Marketing.

August 4-6          Ouachita River         Monroe, LA
August 11-13      Rend Lake               Mt. Vernon, IL
September 1-3    James River            Richmond, VA
Sept. 29-Oct.      Mobile Delta             Mobile, AL

Each of the five Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse WCF winners will be
determined by the cumulative weight of bass caught in three days of fishing
plus the elapsed time in the boater's challenge. The fishing competition
accounts for 60 percent of the total score and boating provides 40 percent.
The Bass Anglers Sportsman Society sanctions the fishing tournament while
the American Power Boat Association is sanctioning the power boating
competition.

The Friday through Sunday competition and outdoor celebration is free to
the public and each day will consist of a morning round of bass fishing, a
mid-day weigh-in, followed by a pit row experience and then an afternoon
boating skills competition.  Drivers will navigate an obstacle course that
emphasizes boat-handling ability. Only one boat at a time will be allowed
on the closed course, with the object being to clock the quickest time. The
course will test maneuvering and agility rather than top-end speeds. "We
respect WCF for taking stringent steps to promote boat safety," said Tad
Whitten of the American Power Boat Association.

The WCF held a first event in August 1999, which drew over 38,000
spectators, the largest ever to attend an outdoor fishing/boating
competition. "World Championship Fishing was developed to attract a new,
younger audience to fishing and boating while gaining investment in the
sport by non-endemic companies.  A title sponsorship by Lowe's Improvement
Warehouse is a giant step forward in achieving those goals," added Corkran.

With 1999 sales of $15.9 billion, Lowe's Companies, Inc. is the world's
second largest home improvement retailer. Headquartered in Wilkesboro,
N.C., Lowe's is the 18th largest retailer in the U.S. as well as the 40th
largest retailer worldwide. Lowe's and its 100,000 employees are Improving
Home Improvement for nearly five million do-it-yourself retail and
