LOST B.A.S.S. ANGLERS RETURN SAFELY AFTER MASSIVE SEARCH ON LOUISIANA DELTA
New Orleans, La. -- September 20, 2000 --Anxious B.A.S.S. officials and
fans breathed a collective sigh of relief upon the safe return of pro
angler Rudy Gautreaux and amateur partner Gavin Duncan. Both failed to
return on time from an opening round of fishing in the BASSMASTER Louisiana
Top 150. Due to weigh-in at 4:40 p.m. CST, the pair arrived at the Bayou
Segnette State Park launch site more than two hours late.
B.A.S.S. National Tournament Director Dewey Kendrick coordinated a massive
search effort with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. "We dispatched a
rescue boat and helicopter as soon as possible and were obviously very
concerned. When anglers check out each morning they are
given a flag and they must turn it in at day's end because we don't want to
ever leave someone out on the water after dark."
"I can't say enough about the continued support and cooperation from
Sheriff Harvey Lee, Lt. Gene Thacker and the entire Jefferson Parish
Sheriff's Office.
Gautreaux of Baton Rouge, LA said they were held up in the Harvey Locks in
the river for four and a half hours. " I can't say enough about the
B.A.S.S. staff. They are a very elite group of people who care about the anglers
and
run the tournaments well."
Both men had their day one catch disallowed due to being more than 15
minutes late to the weigh-in.
