Team Mercury Dominates BASS Eastern Invitationals
-- Wilks shows he has the right stuff
Fond du Lac, Wisc.
- In another show of force on the way to dominating the 1999 BASSMaster's Classic,
four of the five Classic qualifiers from the Eastern Invitationals are Mercury Pro Team members.
With an amazing display of angling talent, Raleigh, North Carolina's Dustin Wilks,
in his rookie year fishing BASS events, not only qualified for the classic, but the
22-year old college student took Eastern Invitational Angler of the Year honors as well.
Rounding out Mercury's qualifiers from the East are Classic veteran George Cochran of
Hot Springs, AR; Robert Soley of Helmetta, NJ; and Bob Pastick of Westport, MA.
Mercury Outboards is the official power of the BASS Masters Tournament Trail, making
Mercury the exclusive outboard during the Classic, Mega Bucks and B.A.S.S. Federation
National Championship tournaments.
The performance heritage and dependability associated with Mercury Outboards has been
established among anglers of all varieties -- over 80 percent of Mercury owners identify
fishing as an activity for which they regularly use the product. This reputation was
solidified and grew from the company's previous official associations with B.A.S.S. during
the 1971-72 season and again from 1979 - 1984.
B.A.S.S., based in Montgomery, Alabama, has over 600,000 members. In addition to the four
pro circuits, its grassroots Federation has 2,800 chapters in 46 states and five countries.
Mercury is based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and is the leading producer of outboard, inboard
and sterndrive marine power with over 6,000 dealers around the globe.
